Ranveer Singh goes bald for ‘Bajirao Mastani’

Ranveer Singh shaves off his head for playing an important historic character, great Maratha leader, Bajirao in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s most ambitious project, ‘Bajirao Mastani’. Ranveer has posted a photo of his getting his hair off.

‘Bajirao Mastani’ story based on the love story of Peshwa Baji Rao I (Ranveer Singh) and his wife Mastani (Deepika Padukone) will see Priyanka Chopra in the role of Kashibai, Bajirao's first wife. The actor has also hired a Marathi teacher to prepare him for the role, Peshwa Bajirao.

“Ranveer would have to get his language and diction completely right. The director doesn’t want a hue and cry over the language being mis-pronounced. Ranveer is already familiar with Marathi and can even speak the language, but for this role he needs to get the nuances and layering right.” stated a source close to the actor.

“Ranveer Singh needs to look convincing as a Maratha warrior. He also needs to acquire a more somber image than the one he has. Sanjay Leela Bhansali has asked Ranveer to control his nervous energy off screen and use it for the role,” added the source.

"Preparations for 'Bajirao Mastani' is very intense. I will have to learn Marathi, horse riding, pick up the accent and do a lot of work for the character. I will have to shave off my hair, work on my look and the physical aspect," Ranveer told PTI in an exclusive chat.

"I have allotted fair amount of time to prepare for this film. It is a large commitment for me to give (time) for one project, but the film demands it and I am more than happy to do it. I believe in the director and the film. Through this film we are trying to achieve something that hopefully will be landmark in our cinema," Ranveer said.

Ranveer read about the Maratha leader and is aware about him and the work he did. "I am aware about him. I am pretty much aware about how my character will be shaping up. I will start working for it towards the end of the year," Ranveer said.

The film went on floor recently and is slated to release on December 25, 2015.
