Box Office: Bang Bang All Set to Steal Haider’s Glory!

Hrithik Roshan’s Bang Bang All Set to Steal Shahid Kapoor starrer Haider’s Glory at the Box Office Windows Today is 2nd October and its is quite clear that its one of the biggest day for the Indian Box Office this year.
Being a National Holiday Gandhi Jayanti, it would see the release of two mega films of Bang Bang and Haider. It is certain that both the movies will turn out to be box office hits even though they are competing with each other, what’s key is their individual performance at the box office.
Bang Bang is an out and out commercial film, with solid mass content, huge stars and an explosive buzz preceding the release of the film. Plus, the release is in over 5000 screens worldwide the biggest ever for a Bollywood movie.
This means that for certain Bang Bang will have an opening day in the range of 25-30 crores depending upon the occupancies in the afternoon shows.
Haider on the other hand, has a very limited screen release as compared to Bang Bang. Reportedly, it is one third the amount of screens on which Bang Bang is releasing. So, even though the movie is sure to get huge critical acclaim and many awards, the producers would be more than happy if the movie does an opening day business in the range of 12-15 crores. This is because even though Shahid is popular in India, there is absolutely no comparison between him and Hrithik Roshan who has popularity in the range of Salman, Shah Rukh and Aamir. Plus Haider is not a typical commercial film per say.
Talking about the weekend which is a long 5 day one, Bang Bang would surprise everyone if it doesn’t cross the 100 crore barrier in the first five days, whereas Haider’s collection is more unpredictable than Bang Bang’s. The thing is that even though at present we can theoretically say that Haider will do around 50 crore business in the first 5 days, we cannot be certain about the Indian audience. It might like the film more than anticipated and Haider might end up collecting something more in the range of 65 crores. Similar trend happened with Chennai Express when it went on to collect a mammoth 100 crores in just 3 days.
All in all, as a trade analyst it will be a delight to watch how these two movie battle it out for the next 10 days or so. Bang Bang will surely come out as the winner, but it would be great to see a dark horse like Haider do some magic as well.
