Even on its second Monday, the Aanand L Rai directorial managed to mint an impressive Rs 5 crore.
Tanu Weds Manu Returns is the first female-oriented film to have entered the sought-after 100 crore club. What makes this even more commendable is that the film has no big male superstar and was not released on a holiday.
Yes, it had some great writing and direction and the performances were all outstanding, but what made the true difference was Kangana Ranaut, the powerhouse talent that made the audiences go in to watch her film, but come out being a fan of Datto. The success of Tanu Weds Manu Returns proves three things.
One, that our female stars can be big crowd-pullers at the ticket windows, two, since a female star charges much lesser than her male counterpart, a film like Tanu Weds Manu Returns makes so much more money for its producers than if it had been made with a big male star with the same box office numbers. And last but not the least, a film with great content marketed well will always be a winner. Aamir Khan remains unbeaten at the box office amongst the male stars. We will wait to see which actress can beat Kangana's box office record. #timesofindia
